EUGAIN: European Network for Gender Balance in Informatics

Think of a project that aims to improve gender balance in computer science at all levels through the creation of a European network. This project focuses on gender diversity from K-12 education through to professional careers. EUGAIN is a COST Action project with over 160 members from across Europe dedicated to raising awareness about the gender gap in computer science.
The EUGAIN project is structured around five Working Groups (WGs) that address the challenges of gender balance:
- From School to University
- From Bachelor/Master Studies to Ph.D.
- From Ph.D./Postdoc to Professor
- Cooperation with Industry and Society
- Strategy and Dissemination
The next activity is the Summer Training School aimed at facilitating capacity building through intensive training on new or emerging topics. Read more on our blog.
3rd International EUGAIN Summer Training School: Gender & Sustainability
EUGAIN Summer Schools is one of the steps that EUGAIN has taken to achieve its goal. The theme of this year is Gender and Sustainability in Informatics. Two key concepts at the core of EUGAIN and of research at large. We invite doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to apply by sending their applications as specified below.
The application is open to everyone interested in the topic of the Training School and working in the field of gender and/or sustainability studies in Informatics. Registration is free and includes participation in all lectures, social events, meals, and coffee breaks. Grants to support travel and accommodation are also available.
Application Deadline 1 July 2024. More details here.
ACM-W Global Chapters’ Summit

On the 22nd of May 2024, the ACM-W Global Chapters’ Summit brought together over 150 members of the ACM Women’s community from all regions. The virtual event highlighted the successes and challenges of ACM-W chapters around the world. It commenced with a welcome and introduction by Arati Dixit, followed by an address from the ACM-W Global Chair, Ruth Lennon, who shared insights into the organisation’s vision and goals.
This event highlighted the importance of global collaboration and the exchange of knowledge among chapters, reinforcing ACM-W’s commitment to supporting and celebrating the achievements of women in computing worldwide. It also provided an opportunity for new and upcoming chapters to meet with other ACM-W chapters, exchange knowledge and get inspired from each other.

6th Summit on Gender Equality in Computing

The Summit aims at promoting gender-equal access to the computer-related scientific frontiers, encouraging and educating women and men in an equal way to achieve their goals and utilize their potential in digital professions.
The goal of the Summit is also to celebrate and disseminate the achievements of computer professionals in a fair and gender-equal way.
Τhe Summit brings together students, researchers, and professionals in the field of Computer Science to:
- Present and share their achievements and experience in the computing field
- Discuss and understand the reasons why there is gender disparity in individuals opting for Computer Science and Engineering
- Consider and exchange views on gender stereotyping in Computer Science
- Come up with incentives and measures to reduce gender inequalities in the field
Be part of a summit that aims to celebrate and disseminate achievements in the field, while trying to come up with ways to measure and reduce gender stereotyping and inequalities.
Registration (FREE) Deadline: June 3, 2024

womENcourage™ – Celebration of Women in Computing
Responsible Computing for Gender Equality Madrid, Spain, June 26-28, 2024

The 11th ACM Celebration of Women in Computing: womENcourage™ 2024, will be hosted at Escuela Politécnica Superior of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Open to all genders, this event is aimed at celebrating the role and impact of women in computing, and supporting participants at different stages in their STEM careers by offering an international, multisectoral, and multidisciplinary forum to share experience and knowledge, get constructive feedback, and promote meaningful networking.

ACM Europe Council Seasonal Schools
ACM Europe Seasonal Schools focus on educating researchers on a general or specialized topic over the duration of one or two weeks and involve a small number of students. They provide a separate instrument for serving the computing community, achieving different goals from those of typical conferences. Usually, all students stay together in the same place, the venue of the school lectures, and ideally this is the case for all their instructors as well. This co-existence of everyone during lectures as well as social activities is important as it facilitates learning, the formation of groups that may continue to interact beyond the duration of the school and connects upcoming researchers and other computing professionals with ACM.
- 8th Summer School on Computational Interaction – June 3-7, 2024 – University of Luxembourg, Belval Campus, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg
- ACM Summer School on Accessible and Inclusive Technologies – June 24-27, 2024 – Birmingham City University (BCU), Birmingham, U.K.
- 2024 ACM Europe Summer School on “HPC Computer Architectures for AI and Dedicated Applications” – September 2-6, 2024 – Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Barcelona, Spain
Open Academic Positions
The Walter Benjamin Programme enables researchers in the postdoctoral training phase to independently conduct their own research project at a location of their choice. The project can be carried out at a research institution in Germany or abroad, with the host institution providing support for the project.
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is now expanding its existing funding measures for academics who have fled their home country by opening up the Walter Benjamin Programme with the aim of enabling this target group to become integrated into the German research system. In the current situation, this practical support measure for refugee researchers from all regions of the world is also an expression of solidarity with researchers from Ukraine as well as persecuted researchers from Russia.
Deadlines: Proposals may be submitted at any time.
ACM Awards and Advanced Grades of Membership Deadlines
Each year ACM recognizes outstanding achievements of its members through awards that cover a spectrum of professional and technological areas and different stages of professional development.
To learn more about awards, we recommend the article by the ACM President Cherri M. Pancake, who dispels some common myths about ACM Awards and Honors in the Communications of the ACM, August 2019. One of the myths is that the ACM Awards never honour people working outside North America. Prof. Pancake writes that even though nothing would make ACM committees happier than to recognise the achievements of people from around the globe, there are very few nominations. Call for ACM Senior Member Nominations
The Senior Member advanced grade of membership recognizes ACM members with at least 10 years of professional experience and 5 years of continuous ACM Professional membership. Nominations are accepted on a quarterly basis. The next deadline for nominations is September 3, 2023.
