Excited to share that the Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter will host the Sarajevo ACM Celebration of Women in Computing (SCWiC 2026) on May 19, 2026, from 10:30–17:30 at the International University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As the first ACM-W Professional Chapter in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter continues its mission of supporting, inspiring, and connecting women in computing through this one-day celebration, held as part of the global ACM-W network of celebrations.
SCWiC 2026 aims to:
🔹 Celebrate the achievements of women in technology
🔹 Inspire the next generation of women engineers and computer scientists
🔹 Foster cross-disciplinary dialogue on the ethical and societal dimensions of computing
The event will bring together undergraduate and graduate students from computing and engineering disciplines across universities in Sarajevo and is open to all genders.
Program highlights include:
✨ Presentation on ACM-W and the Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter by Dr. Amal Mersni (Chapter Chair)
✨ Guest speaker talk by Dr. Asegul Hulus, ACM-W Global Chapters Committee Member: “Women Always Belong in Computing: A Personal Journey”
✨ Student panel featuring participants sharing their experiences at ACM-W’s womENcourage Celebration
✨ Interactive workshop on making sustainable decisions for communities led by Dr. Özge Büyükdağlı (Chapter Vice Chair)
SCWiC 2026 will also feature a student poster session under the theme:
📌 “Computing in My Field: Ethics, Equity and Sustainability”
Students will present early-stage research exploring the intersection of computing, ethics, equity, and sustainability, with accepted posters competing for the Best Poster Award to be presented during the closing ceremony.
The Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter was founded in April 2022 at the International University of Sarajevo and remains committed to building an inclusive and supportive computing community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.
